BERLINO – Il 14 ottobre 2023, presso l’HAU1, ha debuttato The Shift of Focus di Isabelle Schad, che rimarrà in scena fino al 16 del mese.
Come anticipa il titolo, sin dall’inizio dello spettacolo l’attenzione dello spettatore viene spostata su una diversa sensorialità e un differente modo di percepire le forze che ci circondano.
I quindici danzatori in scena, si servono di un linguaggio corporeo semplice, fatto di piccoli movimenti delle mani eseguiti davanti al viso, camminate sulle ginocchia, lift attraverso cui si spostano l’un l’altro in differenti punti dello spazio, eppure riescono a creare un’atmosfera rarefatta, che sembra dilatata temporalmente grazie alla musica, che contribuisce a produrre questa sensazione di leggerezza.
Durante i loro spostamenti su un pavimento morbido fatto di tatami, entrano in scena anche delle tele bianche che vengono issate in alto e poi abbassate dagli stessi performer, rafforzando la contrapposizione tra assenza di peso e gravità. Anche la disposizione dei danzatori in scena, alcuni sdraiati, alcuni in ginocchio, altri in piedi con le braccia intrecciate a coprirgli il viso, riesce ad amplificare l’idea di profondità, larghezza e altezza dello spazio performativo.
Molte le immagini suggestive che, sempre simultaneamente ad altre azioni, vengono offerte. Tra queste restano impresse quella in cui a due a due i performer, intrecciando l’uno le gambe al bacino dell’altro, danno vita a personaggi mitologici che ricordano vagamente i centauri, quella in cui formano un’unica fila centrale che si dissolve e si ricompone nuovamente, o quella in cui, come volando, uno di loro è in piedi sulle mani dei compagni che lo sorreggono in aria.
Mantenendo questa energia che sembra trasportare il pubblico in una dimensione onirica, si arriva alla conclusione del pezzo, che finisce quando i tatami vengono sollevati.
The Shift of Focus è un esperimento interessante che riesce a coinvolgere anche il pubblico nel cambiamento dell’attenzione.
BERLIN – On October 14th, 2023, The Shift of Focus by Isabelle Schad debuted at HAU1 and will be on until the 16th of the month.
BAs the title anticipates, from the beginning of the show the audience’s focus is shifted to a different sensoriality and a different way of perceiving the forces that surround us. The fifteen dancers on stage use a simple body language, made up of small movements of the hands in front of their faces, of walks on their knees, lifts through which they move each other to different points of space. Nevertheless they manage to create a rarefied atmosphere, which seems temporally dilated thanks to the music, that contributes to a sensation of lightness.
During their movements on a soft floor made of tatami, white canvases also enter the scene and are hoisted high and then lowered by the performers themselves, reinforcing the contrast between weightlessness and gravity. Even the disposition (arrangement) of the dancers on stage, some lying down, some on their knees, others standing with their arms intertwined to cover their faces, manages to amplify the idea of depth, width and height of the performance space.
Many suggestive images are offered, always simultaneously with other actions. Among these, the one in which two by two, the performers, intertwining their legs with each other’s pelvis, create mythological characters that vaguely recall centaurs; the one in which they form a single central row that dissolves and comes together again; or the one in which, as if flying, one of them is standing on the hands of his companions who support him in the air.
By maintaining this energy that seems to transport the audience into a dreamlike dimension, we reach the conclusion of the piece, which ends when the tatamis are lifted.
The Shift of Focus is an interesting experiment that manages also to involve the public in the change of attention.
