The 11th edition of the International Dance Competition Expression will take place from the 27 February – 01 March, 2015 in Florence, Italy, within the context of Danza in Fiera at Fortezza da Basso.
The competition is open to groups (with at least three members), duos and soloists.
Competition sections
The choreographies, due to the specific nature or main technique, will be grouped into the following sections:
– Ballet, Neo Ballet
– Modern/Jazz/Contemporary Dance
– Hip-Hop
– Choreographic Composition
– Fantasy Dance
The maximum duration of the whole choreography in the competition, including the positioning and clearance of any scenery, must be:
– Choreographic arrangement: 5 min
– Soloist: 2 min 30s
– Pair/Duo: 3 min (Duos that would perform a piece of the ballet repertory are allowed to keep the original music duration.)
– Group: 3 min 30s (Groups in the Ballet Section can perform a choreography of maximum 4min.)
Extra 30 seconds will be tolerated for every group including ballet (not for soloist nor duos).
Age categories
The competition is divided into the following categories:
– Children, aged 7 to 11 (classic soloists must be at least 8 years old)
– Junior, aged 12 to 15
– Over, 16 years and over (without any age limit).

Prizes and awards
An international, professional jury will award prizes of a total value of € 24.000,- as well as scholarships at among others the Alvin Ailey School (New York), the TanzFabrik Festival (Berlin), Steps on Broadway (New York), CODARTS University of Arts Summer School (Rotterdam). Furthermore you can win a residency at ImPulsTanz – Vienna International Dance Festival or the Special Award of Cirque du Soleil.
