Durante la serata conclusiva del Festival Tanz im August 2022, Bruno Beltrão ha presentato New Creation.
BERLINO – Sul palco dell’Haus der Berliner Festspiele, in un gioco di intermittenze di luci, compaiono e poi scompaiono i membri del Grupo de Rua. In questi brevi intervalli di tempo i performer, in diverse formazioni, creano piccole sequenze di street dance che risultano frammentarie e prive di un nesso che aiuti a cogliere il significato della ‘Nuova Creazione’ del coreografo brasiliano.
Salvo alcuni momenti di danza suggestivi, come quando tutti i performer scivolano sul pavimento con la sola testa e le spalle appoggiate per terra, non bastano salti e capriole a dare ritmo a un pezzo un po’ piatto e sempre uguale. Neanche la musica riesce a suggerire una direzione né a colorare la coreografia.
New Creation è presentato come un pezzo sui conflitti sociali in Brasile, ma questo messaggio non si coglie. Al contrario, pur offrendo un piacevole intrattenimento, la performance sembra priva di una drammaturgia, tanto che non si capisce quando inizia né quando finisce lo spettacolo.
Insomma, se l’uso delle luci può essere interessante e alcuni momenti di danza possono essere coinvolgenti, New Creation non riesce ad emozionare né a far riflettere.
During the Tanz im August 2022 final evening, Bruno Beltrão presented New Creation.
BERLIN – On the stage of the Haus der Berliner Festspiele, thanks to a lights’ game, the Grupo de Rua’s members appear and then disappear. In these short time intervals the performers, in different formations, create quick street dance sequences that are fragmentary and without a link that helps to understand the meaning of the Brazilian choreographer’s ‘new creation’.
With the exception of some suggestive dance moments, such as when all the performers slide on the floor with only their heads and shoulders resting on the ground, jumps and somersaults are not enough to give rhythm to a piece that is a bit flat and always the same. Even the music cannot suggest a direction or give a color to the choreography.
New Creation is presented as a piece about social conflicts in Brazil, but this message is missed. On the contrary, while offering pleasant entertainment, the performance seems devoid of a dramaturgy, so much so that it is not clear when the show begins or when it ends.
In short, if the use of lights can be interesting and some dance moments can be engaging, New Creation is unable to move or make people think.
