Efficace, essenziale, suggestivo: è il lavoro della compagnia cie.Toula Limnaios

Quest’anno, prima degli imminenti impegni per un nuovo progetto che porterà la compagnia  di danza in Brasile, la cie.Toula Limnaios – lo storico gruppo fondato dalla famosa coreografa greca – ha presentato le coreografie: Isson nella nuova versione curata da Leonardo D’Aquino e Daeho Lee, e Short stories del 2005.

Isson, che in greco significa stesso, è un solo per due uomini.
Il palco, spoglio e privo di scenografia, è perfettamente diviso a metà tra i due danzatori posti, specularmente, uno a destra e uno a sinistra del pubblico.
I due protagonisti, senza mai guardarsi, si muovono all’unisono in un perfetto sincronismo reso possibile solo dai respiri che precedono le sequenze di movimenti.
La danza, fatta di gesti precisi ed eseguiti con pari intensità, è ipnotica.
Un uomo e il suo alter ego? Due sosia? La stessa persona riflessa in uno specchio?
Sono molte le suggestioni e le speculazioni possibili su questa coreografia. Un lavoro essenziale, efficace e suggestivo. Bravissimi i due danzatori e la loro straordinaria precisione.

Short stories, come suggerisce il titolo, racconta delle storie.
Il primo pezzo è un duo. Un uomo e una donna, la loro relazione, la difficoltà di comunicare, le cose che si ripetono…
Poi un solo, triste, disperato, malinconico. Una donna, che traccia confini intorno a sé, per difendersi? Per isolarsi?
L’ultima storia è ancora un duo. Al centro c’è un uomo, immobile. Ha paura? È forse debole? L’ha tradita? È un vigliacco? Una donna con incredibile energia gli gira intorno, poi lo sorregge e lo sospinge in avanti.
Notevole il contributo del musicista Ralf R. Ollertz che accompagna e guida i danzatori con bandeon, percussioni e live electronics.

Quanti interrogativi l’amore e le relazioni, nella realtà ma anche nelle rappresentazioni di una sensibile e acuta coreografa che coglie sfumature e racconta le dinamiche – diverse ma uguali – dei personaggi delle sue brevi storie.

This year, before the upcoming commitments for cie Toula Limnaios (the historic dance group founded by the famous Greek choreographer) on a new project which will take the dance company to Brazil, the troupe presented their latest pieces of choreography: Isson, newly edited by Leonardo D’Aquino and Daeho Lee, and Short stories from 2005.

Isson, which in Greek means ‘the same’, is a solo performed by two men.
The stage, bare and devoid of scenery, is perfectly divided in half between the two dancers, who are placed, conversely, one to the right and one to the left of the audience.
The two protagonists, who never look at each other, move in unison in perfect synchronicity, which is only made possible by the breaths that precede the motion sequences.
The dance, which is composed of precise gestures and executed with equal intensity, is hypnotic.
A man and his alter ego? Doppengänger? The same person reflected in a mirror?
There are many suggestions and possible speculations on this piece of choreography.  It’s a piece that is essential, efficient, and charming.  The two dancers are extremely talented in their extraordinary precision.

Short stories, as the title suggests, is made up of stories about relationships.
The first piece is a duet.  A man and a woman, their relationship, the difficulty in communicating, repetition…
Then comes a solo, which is sad, desperate, melancholic. There is a woman, who traces boundaries around herself, perhaps to defend herself? Or to isolate herself?
The last story is another duet.  There is a man at the centre, motionless.  Is he afraid? Is he weak? Has he been betrayed?  Is he a coward? A woman with incredible energy moves around him, then holds him up and pushes him forward.
Ralf R. Ollertz’s music which accompanies and guides the dancers with bandeon, percussion and live electronics is also noteworthy.

Many questions are raised about love and relationships, both literally in reality as well as through the sensitive and acute representations devised by the choreographer. Toula Limnaios captures nuances and relates the dynamics – which are different but equal – of the characters in her short stories.
