BERLINO – Dal 15 al 18 settembre 2022, nell’ambito di Fold – Die erste Falte, il Tanzfabrik presenta Copernicus Drift di Emmilou Rößling.
Dal soffitto della sala n. 14 degli Uferstudios pendono quattro grandi pali di bambù, a due a due incrociati tra loro. Come degli ‘scacciapensieri’ (atrapasueños), a ogni ramo sono legate altre canne più piccole da cui dondolano immagini incorniciate, reti, barattoli e altri piccoli oggetti. Per il resto, lo spazio performativo è delimitato da coperte di lana aperte sul pavimento da cui è possibile accomodarsi per vedere lo spettacolo.
Al centro dello stage quattro donne riunite tra loro.
Accompagnate da una musica rilassante, quasi sussurrata, si muovono con delicatezza, molto lentamente, assecondando la sensazione di calma che il luogo e la musica suggeriscono. Si tratta di una gestualità intima, quasi come se la loro intenzione sia quella di dialogare tra loro e non di esibirsi. Ciononostante, sin da subito è chiaro che non si tratta di un’improvvisazione. Ci sono sequenze che si ripetono, momenti di unisono, altri in cui ognuna esegue movimenti diversi, e altri ancora in cui due danzatrici ripetono la stessa frase coreografica mentre le altre continuano i loro monologhi (soli).
Non c’è un inizio né una fine.
Durante la performance il pubblico può alzarsi, muoversi nello spazio, leggere il materiale fornito dagli organizzatori, allontanarsi e rientrare oppure non tornare in sala. Lo schema è sempre lo stesso. C’è un momento intimo, di raccoglimento, in cui le donne sono intente a parlare magari mentre fanno stretching, mentre legano legnetti o sistemano dei vasi di vetro e poi segue il momento di danza. Tutto è molto rilassante, non c’è la pretesa di stupire, né di sedurre il pubblico con luci, musica e costumi appariscenti (l’unico momento ‘stonato’ è quando due danzatrici iniziano a eseguire penché, battement tendu, développé). Anche i visi delle danzatrici sono molto rilassati e contribuiscono a creare un’atmosfera armoniosa.
Tutto in Copernicus Drift suggerisce quiete. Sembra un auspicio, un messaggio – come i foglietti che portano piegati tra le dita -, l’augurio di una serena, pacifica e silenziosa convivenza in uno spazio comune.
BERLIN – From September 15th to 18th 2022, as part of Fold – Die erste Falte, the Tanzfabrik presents Copernicus Drift by Emmilou Rößling.
From the ceiling of the Uferstudios n. 14, four large bamboo poles hang crossed two by two. Like dreamcatchers (atrapasueños), other smaller reeds are tied to each branch from which framed images, nets, jars and other small objects swing. For the rest, the performative space is delimited by woolen blankets open on the floor from which it is possible to sit down to see the show.
At the center of the stage four women gathered together.
Accompanied by relaxing, almost whispered music, they move in a delicate way, very slowly, following the feeling of calm that the place and the music suggest. It is an intimate gesture, almost as if their intention is to talk to each other and not to perform. Nonetheless, it is immediately clear that this is not an improvisation. There are sequences that repeat themselves, moments of unison, others in which each one performs different movements, and still others in which two dancers repeat the same choreographic phrase while the others continue their monologues (solos).
There is no beginning or end.
During the performance, the public can get up, move around the space, read the material provided by the organizers, leave and re-enter or not return to the room. The pattern is always the same. There is an intimate moment of recollection, in which women are intent on talking, perhaps while they are stretching, while tying sticks or arranging glass vases and then the dance moment follows. Everything is very relaxing. There is no claim to amaze, nor to seduce the public with flashy lights, music and costumes (the only ‘weird’ moment is when two dancers begin to perform penché, battment tendu, développé). The faces of the dancers are also very relaxed and help create a harmonious atmosphere. Everything about Copernicus Drift suggests quietude. It seems like an auspice, a message – like the sheets they carry folded between their fingers -, a wish of a serene, peaceful and silent coexistence in a common space.
