BERLINO – Venerdì 1 e sabato 2 aprile, presso il Tipi am Kanzleramt Berlin è andato in scena il trio musicale britannico Tigers Lillies. Sebbene si tratti di un concerto, la voce e le note si mischiano a una sofisticata perfomance teatrale dando vita a uno spettacolo trasgressivo, clownesco e coinvolgente con quel gusto di cabaret e bordello che ricorda il dadaismo.
Martin Jaques, leader della band, usa la voce in falsetto per sviluppare il suo personaggio sovversivo conosciuto come Criminal Castrato. Con la sua dolce vocina ironica, racconta storie scure di bassifondi, accompagnato dal suo piano o dalla sua fisarmonica, dal doppio basso di Adrian Stout e dalle percussioni di Budi Butenop.
Musica accompagnata dalla corporalità dei clown
La musica viene sempre accompagnata da quella particolare ed espressiva corporalità del clown. I tre pagliacci interagiscono tutto il tempo sia col suono e le parole che con i gesti e i movimenti. La forma in cui ognuno muove le mani è molto espressiva. In particolare, quando Adrian Stout suona il Theremin, l’ipnotico movimento delle sue mani e così forte da ricordare la danza Butoh. Durante i brani e negli intervalli tra una canzone e un’altra, i tre musicisti sul palco interagiscono dando vita a personaggi la cui storia viene raccontata dal vocalista.
Tra re, prostitute, prigioni, morte e lacrime, il gruppo critica la decadenza della società attuale. Con testi dissacranti, simpatiche gag e con la presenza scenica di chi ha calcato palchi di tutto il mondo, The Tiger Lillies, più che un concerto, offrono uno spettacolo multidisciplinare che diverte e perturba, che cattura e sfida.
On April 1st and 2nd the British musical trio The Tiger Lillies performed at the Tipi am Kanzleramt Berlin.
Although this is a concert, the voice and the notes mix in a sophisticated theatrical performance, bringing to life a transgressive and captivating clown show with the flavor of cabaret and brothel that reminds Dadaism.
Martin Jaques, leader of the band, uses his falsetto voice to create his subversive character known as the “Criminal Castrato”. Accompanied by his piano or accordion, by Adrian Stout’s double bass and by Budi Butenop’s percussions, he tells dark stories of the underworld with his sweet and ironic voice.
All of them are great musicians and connect very good with their instrument.
The music comes always with the particular and expressive corporality of the clown. The three clowns interact in every moment with both sound and words, and gestures and movements. The way in which they all move their hands is very expressive. Particularly, the hypnotic movement of Adrian Stout ‘s hands while playing the Theremin, is very powerful and reminds of Butoh dance. During the songs and in between them, the interaction of the three musicians bring to life the characters mentioned by the vocal leader while telling his story.
Between kings, prostitutes, prisons, death and tears, the band criticizes the decadence of nowadays society. With irreverent lyrics, funny gags and the scenic presence of who has stepped stages all around the world, The Tiger Lillies, more than a concert, offer a multidisciplinary exhibition that amuses and perturbs, that captures and defies.
