Domenica 7 agosto, nell’ambito del Circus Festival Berlin 2022, la compagnia francese Collectif Malunès ha presentato We Agree To Disagree.
BERLINO – Approfittando dell’ampio spazio aperto del Templehof Field, un ex aeroporto militare, lo spettacolo viene presentato quando il sole è ancora alto nel cielo. Prima dell’inizio, una ragazza, apparentemente l’organizzatrice dell’evento, dirige il publico davanti a un palco, dove uno alla volta si presentano gli artisti. In una forma clownesca, colorita, gioiosa e con un tocco romantico alla francese, suonano dal vivo il brano di benvenuto. A questo punto, lo show entra nel vivo: il publico viene invitato a disporsi intorno al trapezio, che si trova al centro del vasto prato, e cominciano le acrobazie. La vocalist del gruppo si scopre essere una formidabile atleta che volteggia nell’aria eseguendo pericolose e sensazionali numeri con il suo trapezio.
Il pubblico co-protagonista dello spettacolo
Il tono ludico e la forma in cui gli artisti stabiliscono la convenzione dello show, ricorda molto Sei personaggi in cerca d’autore di Pirandello. Con simpatia e in modo assolutamente imprevedibile, i performer trovano sempre nuovi meccanismi per coinvolgere gli spettatori che, a volte con timidezza a volte con disinvoltura, accettano sempre di stare al gioco. Il numero che segue è il salto della ‘bilancia’. Anche in questo caso a decidere quando far volare gli acrobati è sempre il pubblico che, per dare inizio ai salti mortali deve spingere un bottone rosso dando vita a divertenti siparietti dei quali diventa involontario protagonista. Tra un volo dal trampolino e una capriola aerea, si è persino testimoni del matrimonio tra ‘l’organizzatrice’ e una inconsapevole spettatrice, che con ironia accetta di baciare la sposa.
Il gran finale
Grazie al talento multidisciplinario degli artisti, si assiste a sensazionali numeri aeri, acrobatici e di equilibrio legati armoniosamente tra loro attraverso musica e inaspettati colpi di scena. Dopo esser stati incitati dal cantante della band a manifestare per ottenere ‘più circo e più rischio’ il pubblico resta ipnotizzato di fronte agli esercizi aeri di pendolo con braccia che si alternano alle virate con il trapezio alto. A questo punto si scopre che anche l’organizzatrice e il frontman del gruppo sono abili ginnasti che regalano vertigini ed adrenalina.
Il climax si raggiunge quando dal publico viene scelto un bambino che con coraggio sale sul trapezio e, aiutato dagli acrobati, oscilla nel vuoto.
Sempre nella stessa giornata, all’interno di un tipico tendone bianco da circo, è in scena la Compagnie du Chaos, altro gruppo francese, che presenta Ikuemän.
Cinque performer salgono con agilità sulle pertiche disposte lungo la circonferenza che delimita lo stage. Raggiunta la cima, ognuno di loro, assumendo una posa plastica e impiegando un tempo differente, scivola lungo il palo per raggiungere il pavimento. Questa stessa scena si ripete molte volte, ma il modo in cui i performer tornano a terra cambia sempre. Scivolano con la testa verso il basso, girano vorticosamente, interrompono la caduta con piccole pause, si allontanano e si avvicinano alle pertiche mentre sono a mezz’aria, come in assenza di gravità.
Intense esibizioni
Poi cambiano il ritmo e le luci, e i cinque acrobati iniziano a danzare con i pali in un susseguirsi di spirali, salite e cadute. La dinamica, la qualità di movimento e la personalità di ogni performer rendono le loro interpretazioni intense ed emozionanti, molto più che virtuosismi fini a se stessi. Segue un momento in cui sono tutti coordinati ed eseguono gli stessi passi intorno alle pertiche, per poi, infine, tornare in alto per un’ultima volta.
Non soltanto circo
I giochi di luce, la cura e la precisione calibrata dei gesti fanno di questo spettacolo una performance poetica e delicata, e ciò nonostante la forza esibita dai suoi protagonisti. A differenza di We Agree to Disagree, qui l’elemento acrobatico non è il fine ma soltanto il mezzo, tanto da rendere Ikuemän adatto a essere eseguito in qualsiasi teatro.
On Sunday August 7th, as part of the Circus Festival Berlin 2022, the French company Collectif Malunès presented We Agree To Disagree.
Taking advantage of the Templehof Field wide open space, a former military airport, the show is presented when the sun is still high in the sky. Before starting, a girl, apparently the organizer of the event, directs the audience in front of a stage. Here, the artists, who present themselves one at a time in a clownish, colorful, joyful way and with a romantic French touch, play live the welcome song. At this point, the show is ready to start. The audience is invited to arrange themselves near the high trapezoid, which is located in the center of the vast lawn, and the acrobatics begin. The vocalist of the group turns out to be a formidable athlete who whirls in the air performing dangerous and sensational numbers with her trapeze.
The audience co-star of the show
The playful tone and the form in which the artists establish the convention of the show is very reminiscent of Pirandello’s Six Characters in Search of an Author. With sympathy and in an absolutely unpredictable way, the performers always find new mechanisms to involve the spectators who, sometimes with shyness and sometimes with ease, always accept to play the game. The number that follows is the jump of the ‘balance’. Also in this case, it is always the public who decides when to make the acrobats fly. To start the flips, someone has to push a red button, giving life to amusing comic scenes of which the spectator becomes the involuntary protagonist. Between a flight from the trampoline and an aerial somersault, the public even witnessed the marriage between ‘the organizer’ and an unwitting spectator, who ironically agreed to kiss the bride.
The grand finale
Thanks to the multidisciplinary talent of the artists, the audience is able to see sensational air, acrobatic and equilibrium numbers harmoniously linked together, through music and unexpected twists. After being urged by the singer of the band to make a strike claiming for ‘more circus and more risk’, the audience is mesmerized by the aerial pendulum exercises with arms alternating with the high trapezius. At this point it turns out that even the organizer and the frontman of the band are also skilled circus gymnasts who provide with vertigo and adrenaline.
Also on the same day, inside a typical circus tent, the Compagnie du Chaos, another French group, is on, presenting Ikuemän.
Five performers climb with agility on the poles arranged along the circumference that delimits the stage. Reached the top, each one of them, assuming a plastic pose and taking a different time, slides along the pole to reach the floor. This same scene is repeated many times, but the way the performers return to the ground always changes. They slide with their heads down, turn whirlwind, interrupt the fall with small pauses, move away and approach the poles while they are in mid-air, as if they were in zero gravity.
Intense performances
Then the rhythm and the lights change, and the five acrobats begin to dance with the poles in a game of spirals, climbs and falls. The dynamics, the quality of movement and the personality of each performer make their interpretations intense, much more than virtuos for their own sake. A moment follows in which they are all coordinated and perform the same steps around the poles, and then, finally, return to the top for one last time.
Not just circus
The play of light, the care and the calibrated precision of the gestures make this show a poetic and delicate performance, in spite the strength exhibited by its protagonists. Unlike We Agree to Disagree, here the acrobatic element is not the purpose but only the mean, so much so as to make Ikuemän suitable to be performed in any theatre.
