BERLINO – Quest’anno, nel programma della XXXIII edizione del Festival Tanz im August, in scena presso il Sophiensæle Festsaal, c’è anche An Evening-length Performance del coreografo australiano James Batchelor.
An Evening-length Performance
Il pezzo viene presentato come una rinterpetrazione della sala da ballo barocca, dove avvengono ‘incontri ed espressioni queer’. In realtà, a parte le maniche a sbuffo, qualche drappeggio e dei pizzi sui costumi a rievocare il barocco, non avviene proprio nulla di interessante. Al contrario, l’esibizione scorre lenta e senza mai raggiungere un’acme.
La gestualità sempre uguale che non trova un suo sviluppo, le camminate che si ripetono senza dare una direzione alla coreografia, le parti di unisono in cui manca un’intenzione comune tra i performer e qualche momento teatrale pretenzioso e superfluo, rendono lo spettacolo noioso e piuttosto insulso.
This year, as part of the Tanz im August Festival 33rd edition, An Evening-length Performance by the Australian choreographer James Batchelor went on at the Sophiensæle Festsaal.
The show is presented as a reinterpretation of the Baroque ballroom, where ‘encounters and queer expressions’ take place.
Apart from the puffed sleeves, some drapery and lace on the costumes to evoke the Baroque, nothing interesting happens, on the contrary, the performance runs slowly and without surprises.
The same gestures that do not find their own development, the walks that are repeated without giving direction to the choreography, the parts of unison in which there is no common intention between the performers and some pretentious and superfluous theatrical moments, make the show boring and rather unnecessary.
