BERLINO – Dal 15 al 18 settembre 2022, presso il dock 11 la compagnia Nico and the Navigators ha presentato Du musst Dein Leben rendern! e PopUp Stage ARENA.
Muniti di occhiali AR (augmented reality), tecnologia che consente di sovrapporre alla visione reale delle cose un’immagine generata dal computer, gli spettatori prendono posto e assistono alla prima performance: Du musst Dein Leben rendern! di Yui Kawaguchi e Oliver Proske. Due danzatori, prima l’uno e poi l’altra, si muovono come se stessero dialogando, poi, grazie alla realtà virtuale generata dagli occhiali, si ‘duplicano’. Improvvisamente, compaiono degli ologrammi. Si ‘materializzano’ due manichini bianchi che affiancano i performers. Non è sempre semplice seguire i passi dei danzatori sul palco e, contemporaneamente, quelli degli ologrammi, né è semplice per i due artisti andare sempre a tempo con i loro ‘duplicati’ virtuali. Tutto ciò va a discapito della coreografia e della godibilità della performance. Nell’insieme, comunque, l’esperimento è interessante e l’esperienza nuova.
Dopo un intervallo in cui il pubblico, attraverso dei joystick, disegna scie luminose nell’aria, inizia il secondo pezzo: PopUp Stage ARENA di Chris Ziegler.
Un danzatore si muove in modo sinuoso sopra un piedistallo. Il pubblico lo vede all’interno di una bolla azzurra che si rimpicciolisce, si ingrandisce e si deforma in sintonia con i gesti eseguiti. La danza, in questo caso, è la vera protagonista. L’alone intorno al ballerino è un dettaglio che arricchisce e rende il ‘solo’ più particolare, ma non distoglie l’attenzione dal protagonista del pezzo.
Il bilancio della serata è assolutamente positivo. Sebbene l’elemento virtuale debba essere inglobato in modo ancora più armonioso affinché non ne risenta la coreografia, l’interessante esperimento risulta comunque vincente e divertente.

Equipped with AR glasses – augmented reality is a technology that allows virtual objects to be overlaid in real-world environments in real time -, spectators take seats and watch the first performance: Du musst Dein Leben rendern! by Yui Kawaguchi and Oliver Proske. Two dancers, first one and then the other, move like if they were dialoging, then, thanks to the virtual reality generated by the glasses, they ‘duplicate’. Suddenly, holograms appear. Two white mannequins ‘materialize’ alongside the performers. It is not always easy to follow the steps of the dancers on stage and, at the same time, those of the holograms, nor it’s easy for the two artists to always be in synchro with their virtual ‘duplicates’. All this limits affect a bit the choreography and the enjoyment of the performance. Overall, however, the experiment is interesting and the experience new.
After an interval in which the audience, using joysticks, draws light trails in the air, PopUp Stage ARENA, the second piece by Chris Ziegler, begins.
A dancer moves sinuously on a pedestal. The public sees him inside a blue bubble that shrinks, grows and deforms in harmony with the gestures performed. In this case, dance is the real protagonist. The halo around the dancer is a detail that enriches and makes the ‘solo’ more particular, but does not distract attention from the protagonist of the piece.
The outcome of the evening is absolutely positive. Although the virtual element must be incorporated in an even more harmonious way so that the choreography is not affected, the interesting experiment is worth seeing.
