Sabato 14 agosto, giornata conclusiva del Circus Festival Berlin 2022, la compagnia francese Un loup pour l’homme ha presentato ‘Cuir’ presso l’ex aeroporto militare di Tempelhof Field
BERLINO – Lo spettacolo inizia quando il sole è già tramontato. Lo spazio è organizzato come un’arena romana a cielo aperto, con i riflettori montati su due lati dell’ovale. Due gladiatori, con finimenti di cuoio, entrano al centro della scena; l’uno cavalca l’altro, come se fossero un cavaliere con il suo cavallo. L’auriga, con eleganza e prestigio, saluta il pubblico. Il cavallo porta con fierezza il suo fantino.
Inizia il gioco di potere
Inizialmente, il cavaliere dimostra di avere pieno controllo sulla sua bestia, tanto che esercita con violenza il suo potere, perpetuando abusi che l’animale sopporta stoicamente. L’auriga più volte prende il cavallo dall’imbracatura e lo lancia in aria come in un combattimento greco-romano. Finché questa lotta non diventa una danza, un confronto, un rituale di potere. L’erotismo è nell’aria a causa dell’intensità con cui questi due uomini si urtano furiosamente a vicenda.

Cuir è un duello in cui si amalgamano: giochi di equilibrio, lotta corpo a corpo, equitazione, prese e leve. Tutti ingredienti di una relazione di coppia condita da omoerotismo e violenza. I performer, forti e di bell’aspetto, sembrano statue antiche che si sostengono, si bilanciano, girano e ballano insieme, si lanciano e si cavalcano a vicenda.
Alla fine della performance si invertono i ruoli e il ‘cavallo’ sale in groppa al suo cavaliere.
On Sunday August 14th, Circus Festival Berlin 2022 final day, the French company Un loup pour l’homme presented Cuir at the former military airport of Tempelhof Field.
BERLIN – The space was organized like a roman arena in open air with reflectors in two sides of the oval. The show took place when the sun was gone. Two gladiators with leather harnesses enter the square scenery in the center; one riding the other one, like a horse with its jockey. The charioteer, with elegance and high status, salutes the audience. The horse carries with pride his jock all the time.
The game of power begins
At the beginning, the jockey demonstrates control over his beast. We also witness the violence and abuse that the stoic animal kept receiving on and on. The charioteer several times took the horse from the harness and threw him through the air like in a greco roman fight. And then this fight became a dance, a confrontation, a ritual of power. The erotism was in the air because of the intensity of this two men bumping furiously each others’ bodies.
Body contact
The concept was a power duel with a mixture of equilibrium, body-body fight, horse riding, confrontation, couple relationship, homoerotism and violence. The strong and good-looking performers seemed like ancient statues carrying, holding, balancing, spinning together, dancing, throwing and riding each other.
