Rambert is launching a new three-year choreography fellowship programme this September. Supported by a £74,100 grant from The Leverhulme Trust, the fellowship will give three professional dancers, interested in making a transition to become full-time working choreographers, the opportunity to each spend a year working part-time with Rambert exploring and developing their choreographic practice.
Artistic development is at the heart of Rambert’s work and The Leverhulme Choreography Fellowship is an addition to a programme that also includes a successful music fellowship and a long-running choreographic development programme that has already nurtured generations of emerging dance-makers.
During the year long fellowship, recipients will have the opportunity to observe established choreographers as they create large-scale works for Rambert’s repertoire, explore potential collaborations with practitioners working in different art forms, and use of the Company’s state of the art South Bank studio facilities for research and development work.
The Fellow will create work for Rambert’s world-class dancers as part of the Company’s annual New Choreography Platform. They will also have the opportunity to present work at Rambert’s studios to key individuals working in the sector and to the wider public. Throughout the fellowship support will be available from Rambert’s Artistic Director Mark Baldwin, Artistic Associate Peggy Olislaegers and other members of Rambert’s management team.
The Levehulme Choreography Fellowship has been designed to support the transition of professional dancers into choreographic careers and is particularly suitable for artists with the ambition to collaborate with artists from a variety of disciplines and create work for large-scale spaces.
The deadline for applicatiions is 12pm on Monday 25 April 2016 and the inaugural fellow will be appointed in May 2016, with the fellowship starting at the beginning of September 2016. Second and third fellows will be appointed in 2017 and 2018.
