BERLINO – Il 2 e 3 ottobre 2020, presso l’Halle Tanzbühne Berlin, la cie. toula limnaios ha debuttato con Tell me a better story, ultima creazione della coreografa greca realizzata in collaborazione con i suoi danzatori durante il periodo di lockdown. In ottemperanza alle restrizioni imposte dallo stato di pandemia da coronavirus, la compagnia si presenta con una serie di soli e duetti, divisi in due serate. Il programma presentato domenica ha visto nell’ordine:
Ladylike
Protagonista del primo solo, è Alba De Miguel. La giovane performer spagnola presenta un ironico pezzo in cui dà prova della sua versatilità. Nella prima parte, grazie al suo volto molto espressivo e al corpo flessibile, intrattiene il pubblico interpretando, con assoluta originalità, il ruolo di una docente esperta in materia di ‘sesso’. Quando parte la musica, l’atmosfera cambia. Passando attraverso una danza fatta con le ‘mani nelle scarpe’, un trio con la cattedra e la sedia (unici elementi di scena), un pezzo stile flamenco e una danza in cui sfoglia un libro di Goya, la De Miguel riesce a raccontare l’importanza del sesso, senza mai essere banale e senza mai ricorrere a cliché o a una drammaturgia didascalica. Molto buona la sua prova!
My favorite body
Il secondo performer ad andare in scena è Daniel Afonso. Il suo pezzo, come anticipa il titolo, è incentrato sul rapporto di un uomo, prossimo ai quaranta, e il suo corpo (I want a perfect body canta sulle note dei Radiohead). In questo solo, l’uso degli oggetti di scena, non soltanto le maschere e i tacchi, che hanno un potente impatto visivo e un forte significato drammaturgico, ma anche e soprattutto il video raffigurante le ‘labbra parlanti’, è essenziale per la coreografia. Il protagonista, infatti, usa il video servendosene a tratti come interlocutore, a tratti come alter-ego, per farci entrare nel suo mondo e raccontarci di sé. Intensa e riconoscibile la danza di Afonso e la sua sentita interpretazione.
Fra
La terza coreografia ad essere stata presentata è interpretata da Francesca Bedin, nuovo membro della compagnia. Come in un sogno, la protagonista di questo solo sembra quasi essere sospesa in aria dal grande pallone rosso legato al suo polso. In una sorta di dialogo con il pallone, la Bedin si muove eseguendo gesti sempre ben calibrati, che accompagna con il suo respiro. Nonostante l’atmosfera romantica, quasi eterea, e la musica classica di sottofondo, la danza è squisitamente contemporanea e minimalista. La grande padronanza del corpo che la protagonista esibisce, le consente di amplificare e rendere visibili anche i movimenti più piccoli. Un debutto molto ben riuscito.
Ich bin zwei
Dulcis in in fundo, uno straordinario Leonardo D’Aquino chiude la serata. In una lenta transizione da donna a uomo, da qui la dualità del titolo (Io sono due) il protagonista coinvolge il pubblico con la sua danza sempre velocissima e precisa, con il suo senso del ritmo e con il suo carisma. Dopo averlo visto esibire a piedi nudi, con le scarpe e anche sui pattini, ancora una volta Leonardo D’Aquino offre un’ottima prova calzando tacchi a spillo e trasformandosi in scena.
Dopo mesi di interruzione, la danza torna a vivere sui palchi e nei teatri. Quello della cie. toula limnaios è uno splendido ritorno. Non ci resta che assistere al secondo programma di Tell me a better story.

On 2nd and 3rd October 2020, at the Halle Tanzbühne Berlin, the cie. toula limnaios presented Tell me a better story, the latest creation by the Greek choreographer developed in collaboration with her dancers during the lockdown period.
In compliance with the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic state, the company performed a series of solos and duets, divided over two evenings. The program presented on Sunday was:
Ladylike
The protagonist of the first solo is Alba De Miguel. The young Spanish performer presents an ironic piece in which she proves her versatility. In the first part, thanks to her very expressive face and her flexible body, she entertains the audience by interpreting, with absolute originality, the role of an expert teacher in the field of ‘sex’. When the music starts, the atmosphere changes. Going through a dance made with ‘hands in shoes’, a trio with the table and the chair (the only elements of the scene), a flamenco style piece and a dance in which she leafs through a Goya book, Alba De Miguel manages to tell of the importance of sex, without ever being banal and without ever resorting to clichés or didactic dramaturgy. She delivered a great performance!
My favorite body
The second performer to go on stage is Daniel Afonso. His piece, as the title anticipates, focuses on the relationship of a man, close to forty, and his body (I want a perfect body he sings along the notes of Radiohead). In this solo, the use of props, not only the masks and heels, which have a powerful visual impact and a strong dramatic meaning, but also and above all the video of ‘talking lips’, is essential for the choreography. The protagonist, in fact, uses the video at times as an interlocutor, at times as an alter-ego, to let the audience enter his world and tell us about himself. Daniel Afonso’s dance and his heartfelt interpretation are intense and recognizable.

The third choreography to be presented is interpreted by Francesca Bedin, a new member of the company. As if in a dream, the protagonist of this solo almost seems to be suspended in the air by the big red balloon tied to her wrist. In a sort of dialogue with the ball, Francesca Bedin moves always executing well-balanced gestures, which she accompanies with her breath. Despite the romantic, almost ethereal atmosphere and the classical music the dance is exquisitely contemporary and minimalist. The great mastery of the body that the protagonist exhibits allows her to amplify and make even the smallest movements visible. A very successful debut.
Ich bin zwei
Last but not least, an extraordinary Leonardo D’Aquino closes the evening. In a slow transition from woman to man, hence the duality of the title (I’m two), the protagonist engages the audience with his always very fast and precise dance, with his sense of rhythm and with his charisma. After seeing him exhibit barefoot, with shoes and even on skates, once again Leonardo D’Aquino offers an excellent test wearing heels and transforming himself into the scene.
After months of interruption, dance comes back to life on stages and in theatres. The cie. toula limnaios made a splendid return. Now we wait to attend the other program of Tell me a better story.
