Durante le ultime stagioni, il coreografo di fama internazionale Marco Goecke e la Gauthier Dance si sono lentamente conosciuti, hanno costruito un felice rapporto e scoperto di avere molte cose in comune…
Alla fine, è diventato chiaro che entrambe le parti desiderassero stabilire una cooperazione più stretta. Ecco perché Theaterhaus Stuttgart, per la prima volta, ha creato la posizione di Artist-in-Residence per la sua compagnia Gauthier Dance. Il contratto inizierà a decorrere il 1 gennaio 2019 e durerà per un periodo di due anni con la possibilità di rinnovo. Ci sarà almeno una prima mondiale di Marco Goecke ogni stagione.
Tutto iniziò con I Found a Fox, il contributo di Marco Goecke al progetto Future 6 (Jirí Bubenícek, Itzik Galili, Eric Gauthier, Marco Goecke, Cayetano Soto e Stephan Thoss). L’assolo, creato su misura per Eric Gauthier, non solo fece guadagnare al performer due menzioni come Dancer of the Year 2013 nell’annuario della rivista specializzata Tanz, ma diede anche la possibilità a Goecke di assistere, presso lo studio di Löwentor, alle prove della compagnia, cosa che gli consentì di creare per la stessa, un intero balletto: NIJINSKI. Il lavoro, presentato per la prima volta nell’estate 2016, è l’omaggio di Goecke al leggendario ballerino del quale ci racconta la vita profondamente travagliata. Il pezzo ha riscosso un enorme successo tanto da essere considerato una pietra miliare non solo per Goecke, ma anche per Rosario Guerra (che interpreta il ruolo del protagonista) e per l’intera compagnia. NIJINSKI è stato in tournée in tutto il mondo, da New York a San Pietroburgo e ha ricevuto numerosi riconoscimenti.
Tra poche settimane, il 12 luglio 2018, è prevista la terza anteprima mondiale di Goecke per la Gauthier Dance. Infant Spirit, creato per la nuova produzione Grandes Dames, sarà un altro assolo, questa volta per il suo “Nijinski” Rosario Guerra.
Theaterhaus Stuttgart si sente onorata ed entusiasta che Marco Goecke abbia accettato questa partnership. Il direttore artistico designato dell‘Hannover Ballet intende concentrarsi sulle sue nuove sfide e ridurre significativamente i suoi impegni coreografici prima di assumere il suo posto nell’autunno 2019. Ma farà un’eccezione per la Gauthier Dance.
Marco Goecke commenta: «Mi è sempre piaciuto lavorare con questi meravigliosi danzatori. Nel corso del tempo, sono arrivato a considerare Theatrehaus come la mia seconda casa artistica, a Stoccarda. È fantastico che, come Artist-in-Residence, sarò un membro ufficiale della squadra!».
In vista dell’intenso programma di Goecke, il coreografo e il Theaterhaus hanno già definito il programma per le prossime due stagioni. Nel marzo 2019, Goecke contribuirà con un nuovo pas de deux al duo Deuces. Il suo pezzo Äffi farà parte della line-up del programma della Gauthier Dance per COLORS Classy Classics nel luglio 2019. Come ultimo progetto del piano biennale, Goecke creerà una delle quattro coreografie per la serata Swan Lakes la cui anteprima si terrà a giugno 2020.
He said yes! Over the past few seasons, the internationally acclaimed choreographer and Gauthier Dance have slowly got to know each other, built rapport and discovered many things in common… Eventually, it became clear that both sides wished to establish a closer cooperation. This is why Theaterhaus Stuttgart has, for the first time, created the position of Artist-in-Residence for its company Gauthier Dance. The contract begins on January 1, 2019 and runs for a two-year period – with the option of renewal. There will be at least one world premiere by Marco Goecke each season.
Everything started with I Found a Fox, Marco Goecke’s contribution to the mixed bill Future 6. The tailor-made solo did not only earn the performer Eric Gauthier two mentions as Dancer of the Year 2013 in the Year Book of the specialist magazine tanz. While he was rehearsing at the Löwentor studio, Goecke also had the opportunity to see the company at work. As a result, he created a full-length ballet for Gauthier Dance. NIJINSKI, premiered in summer 2016, was Goecke’s tribute to the legendary dancer Waslaw Nijinski, showing his deeply troubled life in the limelight. The piece was a huge success and is considered a milestone, not only for Goecke himself but for Rosario Guerra in the title role and the whole company. NIJINSKI toured worldwide, from New York to St. Petersburg, and received numerous awards. In a few weeks’ time, on July 12, 2018, Goecke’s third world premiere for Gauthier Dance is due. Infant Spirit for the new programme Grandes Dames will be another solo, this time for his „Nijinski“ Rosario Guerra.
Theaterhaus Stuttgart feels honoured and thrilled that Marco Goecke has agreed to this partnership. For the designated Artistic Director of the Hanover Ballet intends to concentrate on his new challenges and significantly reduce his choregraphic commitments before taking up his post in autumn 2019. But he will make an exception for Gauthier Dance. Marco Goecke comments: „I have always enjoyed working with these wonderful dancers. Over time, I have come to regard Theaterhaus as my second artistic home in Stuttgart. It is great that, as Artist-in-Residence, I will be an official part of the team!“
In view of Goecke’s busy schedule, the choreographer and Theaterhaus have already finalised the programme for the next two seasons. In March 2019, Goecke is to contribute a new pas de deux to the duo bill Deuces. His signature piece Äffi will be part of the line-up of the Gauthier Dance COLOURS programme Classy Classics in July 2019. As last project of the two-year plan, Goecke will create one of four choregraphies for the concept evening Swan Lakes which will be premiered in June 2020.
