BERLINO – Dal 22 febbraio fino al 28 luglio 2024, presso il Chamäleon Berlin, è possibile assistere allo spettacolo Showdown della compagnia inglese Upswing.
Presentati dall’artista multimediale Nima Aida Séne, sette performer si affrontanoin una serie di battles mozzafiato. Volteggiano nell’aria sfidando la gravità, danzano sospesi su un trapezio, assumono pose plastiche su corde e funi che pendono dal soffitto, ruotano sul palco all’interno di un grande cerchio nel tentativo di conquistare il pubblico che è chiamato a esprimere la propria preferenza.
Mentre si esibiscono, ognuno di loro racconta o ci lascia intravedere un po’ di sé. C’è chi è sicuro e spavaldo, chi non accetta il giudizio e l’esito delle sfide e chi, invece, resta in disparte finché non arriva il suo momento di splendere.
Vicki Dela Amedume, direttrice artistica di Upswing, attraverso questo spettacolo comprodotto da Chamäleon Berlin, cerca una narrativa diversa per esibire il talento e le doti dei suoi bravissimi performers. Come dimostra il solo di Zebulon Simoneau, danzatore contemporaneo formatosi a Montreal, non si assiste solo a virtuosismi,
acrobazie e prove di forza, ma anche a coinvolgenti e ‘poetiche’ performance artistiche che portano lo spettacolo a un’altro livello.
Anche se ‘only one can win’ Showdown è sicuramente un successo per tutti i suoi protagonisti che ricevono il meritato applauso del pubblico.
From February22nd until July 28th, at the Chamäleon Berlin, it’s possible to attend Showdown by the English company Upswing.
The multimedia artist Nima Aida Séne introduces seven performers who engage in a series of breathtaking battles. They twirl in the air defying gravity, they dance suspended on a trapeze, they take plastic poses on strings and cables hanging from the ceiling, they rotate on the stage inside a large ring (the Cyr wheel) in an attempt to win over the audience who is asked to express its preference.
While they perform, each of them tells or lets us glimpse a little about themselves. There are those who are confident and bold, those who don’t accept the judgment and the outcome of the challenges and those who, however, remain on the sidelines until their moment to shine arrives.
Vicki Dela Amedume, artistic director of Upswing, through this show produced by Chamäleon Berlin, seeks a different narrative to showcase the talent and skills of her performers. As demonstrated by the solo by Zebulon Simoneau, a contemporary dancer trained in Montreal, the show is not only virtuosity,acrobatics and feats of strength, but also ‘poetic’ artistic performances that take the show to another level.
Even if ‘only one can win’ Showdown is certainly a success for all its protagonists who receive well-deserved applause from the audience.
